ToggleTiming belt is a drive element made of polyurethane (PU) or rubber with reinforced core and regular teeth on the inner surface. Its main advantage is that it perfectly engages with the timing pulley to achieve slip-free power transmission. Timing belt is also an important part of the automobile engine, but it is also used in industrial machinery equipment, medical equipment and office equipment, etc. This text mainly discusses the characteristics of the timing belt, the differences between automotive and industrial timing belt and the introduction of PU timing belt.
Features of Timing Belt
High transmission efficiency: Timing belt has compact structure, no slippage, high transmission efficiency (up to 98%), small wear and long service life.
High transmission accuracy: Timing belt transmission accuracy can reach ±0.2mm, which can meet the requirements of precision transmission.
Simple structure, easy installation, once the timing belt is correctly installed, there is no need to adjust or maintain it.
Smooth transmission, low noise: The transmission of the timing belt is smooth, low vibration, low noise and will not interfere with the machine operation.
Materials of Timing Belt
Two types materials generally are made timing belt, one is polyurethane and another is rubber. PU timing belt has feature of oil resistant, chemical resistant and wear resistant, usually with reinforced wire or aramid cord. Rubber timing belt is featured with heat resistant and high flexible, the common rubber includes neoprene, EPDM or nitrile, depending on the specific application requirements.
Timing Belt Teeth Profile and Pitch
Industrial timing belt has various teeth profiles, like trapezoidal shape as T5, AT10, H, XL and etc, circular arc as HTD5M, STD8M, 14M and S20M, and rabbit shape tooth like RPP5M, RPP8M,RPP14M and so on.
Automotive timing belt mainly have ZA and ZB teeth profile, for which the international standards ISO 9010 and ISO 9011 have specified in details. It is special used for automotive engine, can not interchangeable with industrial timing belt.
Differences between Automotive and Industrial Timing Belt
Industrial Timing Belt | Automotive Timing Belt | |
Material | PU+ steel or Kevlar core | HNBR+ fiberglass core |
Application | Suitable for dust, humidity and corrosive environment | Focus on engine high temperature and high pressure environment |
Service Life | More 50,000 hours, predictable maintenance | 60,000-100,000 miles mandatory replacement cycle |
Core Tasks | Drive multi-axis equipment, precise collaborative operation | Ensure that the camshaft is in line with the crankshaft to avoid valve bump |
Standard | GB/T 13487-2002 | High standard, ISO9011, ISO9011, JASO E 105 JASO E 106 |
