ToggleSilicone timing belt is produced by base timing belt coating with silicone material. Silicone covered timing belt is commonly used in diaper and napkin machine, packing and printing industry. This paper mainly introduces the material, type, advantages and disadvantages of silicone synchronous belt and its application.
Structure and Material of Silicone Timing Belt
Infrastructure
Silicone timing belt is mainly composed of three layers:
- Base Belt: Base timing belt is made of polyurethane or neoprene rubber, the teeth profile can be customized(like arc teeth, trapezoidal teeth )
- Tensile Cord: The polyurethane timing belt has steel wire or Kevlar reinforced core, while the neoprene rubber timing belt usually has fiberglass cord.
- Silicone Coating: The seamless silicone coating is blade coated on timing belt surface, the hardness, color and thickness of silicone coating can be customized according to customers’ requirements.
Silicone Material Performance
Silica gel (methylvinyl silicone rubber) has the following performances due to the high bond energy of Si-O bond in its molecular chain (about 444 kJ/mol) :
- Wide temperature range: It is flexible from -60°C to 200°C and stable at high or low temperatures.
- Aging resistance: Under ultraviolet and ozone environment condition, belt service life extends 3-5 times.
- Chemical resistance: Resistant to acid, alkali, grease and solvents, especially for harsh working conditions.
4. Anti-stick: Silicone is not easy stick to the surface of most materials, and requires a specific silicone glue to achieve bonding. - Food grade: Silicone is food grade and can safely contact food.
As an industrial belt manufacturer, Puteken selects the highest quality silicone raw materials and tests the silicone for heat resistance. Our silicone can withstand high temperatures of 400 degrees and has excellent wear resistance.
Types of Silicone Timing Belt
Silicone coated PU timing belt: Silica gel is coated on the surface of the polyurethane toothed belt to improve the temperature resistance, chemical resistance and friction of the timing belt. The silicone coating thickness varies from 1.5mm to 10mm. The standard color of coating are white, blue, gray and green, and other colors can be customized. Polyurethane and silicone material both are food grade, can be directly in contact with food, widely used in food processing, diaper production, health products, medical equipment and printing industries.
Rubber timing belt coated with silicone: A layer of silica gel is coated on the surface of the rubber timing belt to increase the belt friction and anti-viscosity, which is suitable for high-speed machines in the sanitary products industry and packaging machines in the packing industry.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Silicone Timing Belt
Advantages
- Excellent Heat Resistance: The silicone material has excellent high temperature resistance characteristics, and it can operate stably at temperatures up to 220℃ or higher, making it ideal for applications where require high temperature.
- Superior Chemical Resistance: Silica gel has a high resistance to a variety of chemical material (such as acids, bases, solvents and oils), which makes it preferable in food processing, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
- High Elasticity and Anti-aging: The silicone layer not only has good elasticity, but also maintains stable physical properties after a long time of operation, reducing cracks or wear caused by aging.
- Good Tensile Strength and Wear Resistance: By combining with high-performance reinforced fibers, silicone timing belt can maintain excellent tensile strength and wear resistance when subjected to high load transmission, ensuring long-term stable transmission.
Disadvantages
- Higher Cost: Compared with traditional rubber or PU timing belts, silicone timing belts are more demanding in raw materials and production processes, so the cost is relatively high and may not be suitable for cost-sensitive projects.
- Strict Technological Process: The coating process of silica gel has high requirements for equipment and operation, and once the process is improperly controlled, it is easy to cause the silicone coating layer or fall off , thus affecting the belt overall performance.
- High Friction Affect Stable Operation: Surface silicone coating friction coefficient is higher, compared to polyurethane or rubber synchronous belt, more likely to produce resistance, affecting the flow of transportation.
- Strong Adhesion to Dust or Pollutants: Silica gel material has a certain adhesion, easy to absorb dust, affecting the belt service life and cleanliness.
Applications of Silicone Timing Belt
- Napkin & Diaper Production Line
Silicone timing belt is mainly used in the production of diapers and napkins for material transportation, semi-finished product transfer and finished product output. Its wear resistance, flexibility and non-sticky properties ensure continuity and efficiency in the production process. - Food Processing and Packaging
Food-grade silicone belts are often used in food processing and packaging production lines for transmission, sorting and synchronization transmission, which not only ensures food safety, but also can resist high temperature and oil pollution in the production process. - Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries
Due to its excellent acid, alkali and solvent resistance, silicone timing belt is often used in chemical equipment and pharmaceutical machinery to ensure efficient and stable transmission in harsh environments. - High-temperature Industrial Equipment
In high temperature industries such as aluminum processing and metallurgy, the silicone timing belt can withstand extreme temperatures to meet the long-term operation needs of the transmission system under harsh conditions. - Precision Instruments and Automation Equipment
High-speed, high-precision automated production lines and robot systems has extreme high transmission accuracy, silicone timing belt with its excellent mechanical properties and stability, become an important part of these equipment.
