PU timing belt is made of wear-resistant thermoplastic polyurethane and reinforced steel or Kevlar core . There are some common splicing methods: like hot-melt joint, mechanical joint and cold bonding joint. This text mainly introduces the principle, operation steps, advantages and disadvantages, as well as precautions of hot melt joint method.
Principle of PU Toothed Belt Hot Melt Joint
PU timing belt hot melt welding refers to the connection of the two open ends of one piece timing belt by hot melt under high temperatures, making it a ring circle shape. The principle is to heat two ends of synchronous belt to make them melt and then connect them. Synchronous belt hot melt welding can ensure the firmness and reliability of the belt joint.
Procedures of PU Timing Belt Hot Melt Joint
1.Preparatory work: Select the synchronous belt to be welded and determine the required width and circumference. Inspect and calibrate the hot melt machine and the finger puncher machine.
2.Clean timing belt: Clean the dirt on the timing belt.
3.Timing belt teeth puncher: Use the synchronous belt finger puncher machine to cut the belt into pairs of teeth. The structure of the symmetrical teeth makes the connection area of the belt larger and more firm.
4.Trim and clean: Trim and clean the ends of the beltafter the tooth punched.
5.Align the toothedbelt: Place two ends of the timing belt on the mold device to ensure that they are aligned.
6.Start the weldingmachine: Put the mold on the welding machine, then the two ends of the belt are fused together under the high temperature and pressure of the welding machine.
7.Cooling and curing: Place the welded synchronous belt in the cooling equipment and wait for its natural cooling and curing.
8.Trim and polish the welded synchronous belt.
Comparisons of Advantages and Disadvantages
| Advantages | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| Smooth joint, more stable transmission | Need professional equipment, operation threshold is high |
| No extra parts, lightweight | Improper temperature control may easily lead to a strength decrease in the joint |
| Wear resistant and long lifespan | Not applicable to all materials (e.g. fiberglass reinforced tape) |
Precautions
- Temperature control: If temperature too high will burn the material, too low the joint will not be bonded.
- Clean environment: On the belt joint part, avoid any dust and grease pollution.
- Safety protection: Wear high temperature gloves and safety goggles during operation.
- Strength test: When joint finished, load test is recommended to ensure belt reliability.
